However, the shifts seem to have become regular only at the end of the 1870s, when the municipal assembly decided to build a new and &#8220;a more comfortable ship bridge&#8221; or ship pier in the village, pointing out to the start of regular shipping. The ships \u201cImatra\u201d and \u201cSavonlinna\u201d, which sailed the Lappeenranta-Savonlinna route, also stopped in Sulkava coming and going. The ship&#8217;s arrival at the harbor was a special event.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-96002bf elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"96002bf\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-80c5cbb\" data-id=\"80c5cbb\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1474388 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1474388\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The steamships were considered to have caused so much disturbance with their loud departure whistles, which frightened especially the horses, that in the summer of 1910, the municipal assembly decided, under the threat of a fine of 40 Finnish marks, to completely prohibit the departure signals by steam whistles in the village center for both passenger and cargo ships.
